Sonnets

An English Sonnet

Screaming and kicking I was pushed outside.

Mother kissed me and waved to me goodbye.

Must I run from the gnarling beast or hide?

I sprint and dodge the puddles to keep dry.

Up over the fence and across the street.

He is barking and drooling on my heels.

Any way I go, we wills surely meet.

The chase will end when I hear screeching wheels,

Or when the old man steps on his loose chain,

Or maybe an alien will take him.

Today I think the same thing will happen again.

I think about climbing out on a limb.

I decide to grab the doorknob of brass.

At school I am safe and he hits the glass.

An Italian Sonnet

So far away, burning bright, burning long

like a nova brighten. Why do you fade?

I only want to look at what God made.

Clouds cover you over. It is so wrong.

You fly further. I want to go along.

Be my escort and to me don’t evade.

Every night I fall for your new faade.

Hold me in your embrace. It is so strong.

Am I where I am? Where am I going?

I will not let go; you enthrall me so.

No day ever will this be in a book.

Suddenly my life is slowly slowing.

Not one memory lost is of my woe.

All I did was look; boy, you have some hook.
